100 Dancers in a Day
On a Saturday in April 2016, we set out to give Oaklanders a chance to show their stuff. We stretched a 35-foot white cloth across a grassy field at Lake Merritt. The goal was to photograph people as they danced, walked, jumped, rolled, biked, cartwheeled and crawled in front of (and at times behind) the backdrop. We were hoping to get 100 people at the event. By the end of the day, more than 400 showed up, and more than 250 participated, including:
44 children
15 dogs
5 bikes
4 strollers
a couple of soccer players
1 wheelchair
and an ice cream cart
