Penny may not be from Oakland, but they are as much this City as anyone. Four years ago Penny opened Cafe Gabriela, not just as a business venture, but to be a part of the community and to contribute to making the community better. And that’s what they do each day. When I think of Penny I think of commitment to local artists, passion for social justice and love of Oakland.
Oakland is my home and my refuge. She embraced my uniqueness and welcomed my skills and talents. She’s in my heart and I in her’s.
